Trading hours are in U.S. Central Time unless otherwise stated. For products traded solely via CME ClearPort Clearing, the hours are as follows: Sunday-Friday 5:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Chicago Time/CT with a 60-minute break each day beginning at 4:00 p.m. CT Coverage of post-market trading including futures information for the S&P, Nasdaq and NYSE. United States equity index futures trade around the clock, with just a one hour and fifteen minute, break each day. Futures open for trade on Sunday of each week at 6PM EST. The table below shows the minimal increment of movement for each contract, this is called a tick. The pre-market futures trading hours are 30-minutes prior to the underlying market open while the after-hours markets cover the trading period in the futures markets after the official cash markets are closed. Because the futures markets are open for much longer compared to the underlying market trading hours, especially in equities, the pre-markets and after hours trading is often slow with low trading volumes. It is possible to trade the pit electronically but I do not know anyone that does it. Globex opens on Sunday at 5:oo PM CT to 3:15 pm the following day and 3:30 to 4:30 and than 5:00 PM CT to 3:15 the next day. Said more simply. The majority of futures contracts start trading Sunday at 6 p.m. Eastern time and close on Friday afternoon between 4:30 and 5 p.m. Eastern, depending on the commodity. Trading will stop for 30 to 60 minutes each day at the end of the business day.
